Noses are for Breathing, mouths are for Eating
When doing breathing and awareness exercises, we generally prompt you…
In today’s world, technology has taken over and made life so much easier. Tasks which used to require our prolonged focus and attention can now be done in little or no time at all. This has become terrible for training our attention skills, and we often find ourselves multi-tasking doing 2-3 jobs at a time. Operating like this prevents you from staying focused on one train of thought for long. Our minds wander off onto other tasks, and you may start relying on your emotional instincts and reward pathways to guide your decisions (Mithu Storoni, Stress Proof, 2017).
Where we used to have to search for answers through applying effort, concentration and focus, we can now get through the click of a button.
Take “google” for example, within minutes, even seconds we can have the answer to pretty much any piece of information that we require. Whilst this might sound great this is terrible for our attention and concentration skills.
For these reasons we ask you to go technology free for two hours before bed. Aim to switch off all laptops, phones, and tablets for this period before bed. It may feel scary at first but will have significant benefits to your life.
Tonight we invite you to set aside an hour each evening this week to make your home a rational brain cave. Switch off your phone, computer, and any tablets you have. Listen to some soothing music if you wish, or read a good book. We challenge you to stick with it for one hour every evening this week.
Can you successively complete it? Good luck!
